News: Doordarshan to deploy 29,500 FTA DTH sets across 16 states in India.

In order to reach areas in India where terrestrial signals are not accessible, the government run Doordarshan will be distributing 29,500 DTH sets free of cost. The move is to ensure channels coming under the country´s public broadcaster, Doordarshan’s DTH arm DD Direct Plus would be aired in remote areas of the country.

The Information and Broadcasting ministry has announced that 16 states would be getting free sets including Rajasthan, which would receive 2,227 sets and Himachal Pradesh would get 20,397 sets . Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Karnataka and Uttarakhand are among the states which would benefit from the scheme.

There are 59 channels coming under Doordarshan´s bouquet with 21 Doordarshan channels, 30 private channels and four international channels apart from two channels that broadcast parliament sessions. Doordarshan is also planning on increasing the number of channels coming under its roster significantly with the number being cited as high as 50 additional channels. Six vacant slots are currently being auctioned off currently.
